Subject: Wind Direction when Hunting Whitetail Deer

QUESTION:
When hunting whitetail deer from a tree stand should the wind hit you in the face? Which direction will a deer travel upwind or downwind?

ANSWER:
Joe - ideally, you want the wind coming from the preferred hunting location to your tree stand. However, it is told that whitetail deer travel with the wind in their faces. Preferably, you want your tree stand to be at least 25 feet from the ground, so that your scent stays up and away from the ground.

In this example, your tree stand is on the left, the wind is blowing from the right to the left, and the deer are expected on the right.

Tree stand           <--- wind           deer feeding
