Naturalists, Conservationists, Sportsmen and Hunters

Many wildlife species have rebounded from near extinction in the United States due to hunting conservation efforts. Thanks largely to wildlife management involving legal hunting, and to unparalleled conservation investments made by sportsmen, many species are flourishing in North America. Some notable successes include:

Year Whitetail Deer Elk Turkey Ducks Canada Geese
1900 350,000 100,000 20,000 30,000,000 45,000,000
2000 30,000,000 1,000,000 5,500,000 40,000,000 250,000,000

In a future article we will address the environmental effects of whitetail deer.
