Elk

elk Elk - Cervus canadensis

Full grown Elk bulls are as big, bold and majestic as the country they call home. Most of us think "mountains" when we think elk. But wapiti were originally denizens of the plains and prairies, and only retreated to the high country when beef cows, ranching, fences and agriculture took over the lower country. Today, elk are doing fine and starting to work their way back onto the prairies again. A good bull elk weighs 500 or 600 pounds. Elk are closely related to European Red Deer. If you are going elk huning, use this Elk Hunting Equipment List to prepare for your trip.
