Caribou

caribou Caribou - Rangifer tarandus

Caribou country means far northern tundra – flat, open ground with mosses, lichens and dwarf shrubs and conifers as the only plants – and permafrost down below. The places caribou live are invariably wild, lonely, isolated, and beautiful. Bulls of different caribou subspecies grow to different sizes, but most top out at 300 to 400 pounds. The caribou antlers, whether partially polished or completely stripped of velvet, are spectacular. Hunting caribou is all about timing this just right and being there when the caribou herds are migrating though the area.
