Don't Shoot Whitetail Button Bucks or Spikes

When whitetail deer hunting, hunters normally prefer to harvest large whitetail deer. For meat hunters, the larger the whitetail deer, the greater the quantity of coveted venison to be put into the freezer. For trophy hunters, a large mature whitetail buck may have reached his potential in size and antler growth.

Large mature whitetail does normally have reached their full potential and should be harvested to let the younger deer grow-up. The whitetail habitat (land) can only support so many whitetail deer due primarily to the amount of food available for the whitetail deer to forage and eat.

Hunters generally don't want to shoot whitetail button bucks or spikes. It is ussually desired for these young immature bucks to be given a chance to grow-up and mature into a large trophy whitetail buck.
